Training Camp Traveler: Bay Beach

Many people would not expect a small city like Green Bay to be home to roller coasters, let alone an entire amusement park. Although Bay Beach is no Six Flags, it’s a close runner up and has a lot to offer if the sun is shining and you’re looking for a great time.

Situated near the mouth of the Fox River, Bay Beach’s history dates back to the 1890’s, when a young entrepreneur purchased the land. Today the park is a family place, with scenic views and rides for children of all ages. With rides at Bay Beach costing as little as 25 cents, the park is a great place for an inexpensive family trip.

The latest addition to the park is the famous Zippin Pippin, one of the oldest existing roller coasters in the United States originally from Memphis, Tennessee. Zippin Pippin has been a huge success in Green Bay and even drew praise as one of the best new amusement rides from Amusement Today.

If roller coasters aren’t your fancy, have no fear. Take a leisurely ride in the boat pond or slam, bam and bump fellow drivers on the bumper cars. Grab a burlap sack and slip down the Giant Slide or bring your camera for a short tour of the grounds on the Bay Beach Train along the picturesque bay.

Whether you’re looking for an ice cream novelty and traditional soft pretzel at the concessions or looking for a thrill on one of the rides, Bay Beach offers a fun filled day for all ages.
